KAPAL MT BUNGA ALPINIA TERBAKAR
Dari sumber yang dipercayai kebakaran berlaku disebabkan sambaran petir.
FYI, at about 0230 hours 26 July 2012, a huge explosion to the tanker MT
BUNGA APHINIA ( MISC ) was occurred during loading of Methanol.
it was initially reported caused by lighting which struck the vessel's
vapour air vent.
Reported, fatality of five (5) vessel's crew member and minor injury to
shore's loading master which monitoring the operation nearby the jetty at
the time.
Up to date, the vessel's still in fire condition and all emergency operation
still in progress from seaside.

Kejadian dipercayai diakibatkan sambaran kilat sewaktu proses pemunggahan kargo methanol. Kebakaran yang bermula daripada kawasan dek (depan atau tengah, forward or amidships), diikuti beberapa siri letupan telahpun merebak sehingga ke accomodation.
Kebakaran bermula sekitar jam 2 pagi, dipercayai ketika kargo sudah hampir penuh. Merujuk kepada gambar terbaru pagi ini, api masih belum dapat dipadamkan sepenuhnya, tetapi kapal dilihat telah rosak teruk dan menyenget ke tepi sebelah kiri (listed to portside).
Tiada berita tentang keadaan ruang enjin.
Letupan boleh didengari hampir ke seluruh Pulau Labuan.
Sehingga jam 9 pagi, tiada lagi liputan media oleh sebarang agensi berita tempatan.
Akibat letupan, terdapat bahagian dek yang telah terbuka (peel off).
Beberapa buah bot tunda turut terlibat dalam usaha memadam kebakaran dan evakuasi krew kapal.
Gambar terbaru jam 0920 pagi mendapati Bunga Alpinia telah ditarik keluar menjauhi dermaga.
Kapal ini mempunyai krew warganegara Malaysia, Filipina dan India.
Krew dipercayai telah meninggalkan kapal setelah mendapat arahan nakhoda. Walaubagaimanapun, lima (5) orang krew dipercayai hilang akibat impak letupan. Nasib mereka masih belum diketahui.
